The ACE Board knows that the vast numbers of the ACE members truly appreciate and are satisfied with their electrical service. We understand that you would all love to pay less for this necessity of our lives, but we believe that it is our duty to demand that ACE’s reliability and state of the art service cannot be under funded in today’s world.
The original Board of Directors in 1934 expected the “Corinth Experiment” to work, and it definitely has been a tremendous success. There are now approximately 1,000 Rural Electric Cooperatives serving over 80% of the landmass of the United States. Most of them do not have the low rates that we have, but they are not blessed with a TVA. All of the members who have lived outside of the TVA area can probably attest to that fact.
ACE’s first Board was developed as a Policy Board that would serve without a salary and that is the way ACE’s Board is handled today. The Board was never developed to be a Political Board or a Hiring Board. The Board of ACE hires the Manager of ACE and it is the Manager’s duty to carry out the policies of ACE’s Board. All of ACE’s rules and regulations are approved by TVA as well as all of the rates that are charged our members. With the Board’s approval, the Manager does hire contractors for regular maintenance from time to time and none of the contracts are with ACE Board Members.
The ACE Board is comprised of members with no specific agenda. Our concern is to make sure that ACE provides reliable and safe service at the least possible cost. ACE’s multimillion-dollar business is technical, dangerous, and a necessity for our fellowmen. This is why your ACE Board makes sure that ACE has a skilled and qualified Manager who staffs ACE with the best engineering, financial, and skilled team of leaders, who are ready 24/7 to lead ACE’s skilled workforce to meet any challenge at a moments notice.[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][fusion_dropcap][/fusion_dropcap]
Your Board was extremely pleased this past year with the Association being able to keep the rates low while having to pay TVA a $3 to $6 Million bill per month, and ACE being able to keep only 15% to 25% of the monthly revenue to pay our costs while also doing the necessary work to keep our reliability high. We were able to maintain having the power on 99.997% of the time even with the small ice storm we experienced.
In comparing ACE’s rates to others, a recent study performed by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on residential rates, using data from May 2015, reveals that the national average cost per kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity is 12.95 cents per kWh. In Mississippi, that falls to 12.20 cents per kWh. We are proud to say that ACE’s residential rate during May 2015 was 9.161 cents per kWh.
One other issue that your ACE Board wants to bring the membership up to date on is the popular and growing PayWise Program, which was developed to help our members pay their bill in an easier way and not have to put up a large deposit. Prepaying your electric bill can possibly save you from 5% to 12% according to recent studies. We have kiosks installed at two locations for your 24\7 convenience. One is at the Sprint Mart on Highway 72 West and the other is at the Corinth Coin Laundry on Highway 72 East.
Thank you for being a member of Alcorn County Electric Power Association.
